Comment by rushfan4 10 days ago Sebastian Bach : Bring 'Em Bach Alive1999rushfan4 has listened to this a couple of times. Decent Non-Prog Hair Metal! decent Composition, Songwriting, Musicianship and Production First solo album from ex-Skid Row vocalist. Some new studio songs and some solo performances of Skid Row songs. Fans of Skid Row should probably have this; other will probably have no interest. Comment by rushfan4 17 days ago GTR: GTR1986rushfan4 is very familiar with this album. Classic, Guitar, Male-Falsetto good Composition, Songwriting, Musicianship and Production Steve Hackett from Genesis meets Steve Howe from Yes. I enjoy this more than most seem to. Not as progressive as one might hope coming from two of the elite prog guitarists, but then again Genesis and Yes were both quite poppish even in their proggiest days. Comment by rushfan4 21 days ago Van Der Graaf Generator: Pawn Hearts1971 rushfan4 has listened to this a couple of times. Good Eclectic Prog Rock! Classic, Dark, Flute, Mellotron, Organ, Piano, Saxophone great Songwriting, good Composition, Musicianship and Production I have to admit that I really don't like this album all that much, YET. I fully expect that it will eventually grow on me, but I am new to VDGG and I find this hard to enjoy at the moment. I am a bit better with Peter Hammill's voice than when I started with VDGG, but I still don't really care for David Jackson's saxophone playing. At times the sax playing is decent, but mostly it just sounds like he is strangling a cat. Comment by rushfan4 23 days ago Robert Plant: Pictures at Eleven1982rushfan4 has only listened to this once. Great Non-Prog Hard Rock! great Composition, Songwriting, Musicianship and Production Debut solo album from Led Zeppelin front man. I think that this is the most Zeppelin-esque of his solo albums and should appeal to Led Zeppelin fans. Comment by rushfan4 24 days ago Gowan : Lost Brotherhood1990rushfan4 is very familiar with this album. Great Prog-Related AS Hard Rock! Melodic, Guitar, Male-Clean-Vocals great Composition, Songwriting, Musicianship and Production Includes Alex Lifeson on guitar and Tony Levin on bass guitar. Lawrence Gowan later went on to join Styx. Comment by rushfan4 one month ago Geddy Lee: My Favourite Headache2000rushfan4 is very familiar with this album. Magnificent Prog-Related AS Hard Rock! Bass, Drums, Violin, Male-Melodic-Shouting magnificent Songwriting, Musicianship and Production Almost sounds like a Rush album to me. Great stuff!!! Comment by rushfan4 2 months ago The Who: Who's Better, Who's Best1988, Bestrushfan4 is very familiar with this album. Excellent Prog-Related AS Hard Rock! Drums, Guitar, Male-Melodic-Shouting magnificent Songwriting, great Musicianship and Production In my opinion, an excellent compilation. For me, The Who are one of those bands where the greatest hits album is much better than any of their individual albums. Comment by rushfan4 4 months ago Queensrÿche : Take Cover2007rushfan4 has listened to this a couple of times. Good Prog-Related Metal! Drums, Guitar, Male-Melodic-Shouting Unlike many, I tend to enjoy cover songs and cover albums as a way of seeing how some of my favorite bands might sound doing another bands music and there are always a few song that I have never previously heard before so it might lead to new discoveries. That being said, while a fun listen, I would guess that this was done under label pressure and to fulfill contract obligations and won't appeal to those who frown upon these kind of albums. Comment by rushfan4 4 months ago The Mob : The Mob2005rushfan4 has listened to this a couple of times. Excellent Non-Prog Metal! Melodic, Modern, Hard-Rock, Guitar, Male-Melodic-Shouting excellent Composition, Songwriting, Musicianship and Production King's X meets Winger. This supergroup's debut and only album to-date, brings Doug Pinnick from King's X together with Reb Beach of Winger fame to create a very enjoyable hard rock/hair metal album. The album was produced by Kip Winger and also includes Kelly Keagy from Night Ranger on drums and Timothy Drury from Whitesnake and formerly of The Eagles on keyboards. For fans of the aforementioned bands. Comment by rushfan4 4 months ago Autograph (USA) : Missing Pieces1996rushfan4 has listened to this several times. Decent Non-Prog Glam Metal! I purchased this album solely for the purpose of owning a version of Turn Up The Radio, which was a hair metal anthem from my teenage years. Comment by rushfan4 5 months ago Aerosmith: Aerosmith1973rushfan4 is very familiar with this album. Great Non-Prog Hard Rock! Classic, Metal, Blues, Guitar, Male-Melodic-Shouting The debut album from Steven Tyler and company contains Dream On, one of the greatest power ballads ever written, and Mama Kin, a really good rocking song that I had never heard until Guns and Roses covered it many, many years later. The rest of the album is decent blues rock in the typical Aerosmith sound which will be further developed on future albums. Comment by rushfan4 5 months ago David Bowie: Best of Bowie2002, Bestrushfan4 has listened to this a couple of times. I am not a big fan of David Bowie's and I don't know how representative this compilation is of his catalogue, but I do like many of the songs that are included on this compiliation. Comment by rushfan4 5 months ago The Moody Blues: A Night At Red Rocks With The ...2003, Liverushfan4 is very familiar with this album. Stellar Symphonic Prog Rock! Classic, Male-Clean-Vocals This is one of my favorite live albums of all time. The original was released in 1993 with 12 or 13 songs on it. The expanded 2-disc edition was released in 2003. These discs consist of many of the Moody Blues greatest songs played live with a symphony orchestra. Highly recommended to fans of the Moody Blues and symphonic prog music. Comment by rushfan4 6 months ago Sting: Fields of Gold: The Best of ...1994, Bestrushfan4 is very familiar with this album. Magnificent Non-Prog Artistic Rock! Modern, Pop, Male-Clean-Vocals This is a compilation of songs from the Police frontman's solo career. I believe that Sting is generally labeled as adult contemporary or easy listening but I find his music to be much better than that of artists that are generally labelled as such. There appears to be various versions of this compilation album. My version has only 14 songs and includes Fortress Around Your Heart and Be Still My Beating Heart, and it does not include the 5 songs that I have marked as bonus. The track listing is slightly different as well. As will most compilation albums, this is a good retrospective of Sting's solo career. There are other songs that I might have included and some that I might not have included but overall it is a good representation of his career. This also includes 2 new songs which I believe were first released on this album When We Dance and The Cowboy Song. Comment by rushfan4 6 months ago Satellite: A Street Between Sunrise And ...2003rushfan4 has listened to this a couple of times. Stellar Symphonic Prog Neo Rock! Concept, Male-Clean-Vocals perfect Musicianship, stellar Production This is a magnificent first album from this band from Poland led by drummer Wojtek Szadkowski. It is the first of a three album set based around a similar concept. The music, singing, and lyrics are all extremely well and tastefully done. Comment by rushfan4 6 months ago Various Artists: Scream 21997, Comprushfan4 has listened to this a couple of times. This album is the soundtrack to the Wes Craven movie Scream 2. I purchased it used because it had a decent lineup of alternative and pop artists including Dave Matthews, Collective Soul, Foo Fighters, Tonic, Everclear, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. As with most soundtracks, some of the music is pretty good and some of it I could do without. All in all this is an OK album. Comment by rushfan4 6 months ago Def Leppard : Pyromania1983rushfan4 is very familiar with this album. Magnificent Non-Prog Hard Rock! Modern, Guitar, Male-Melodic-Shouting magnificent Songwriting, Musicianship and Production I now own this on CD, but Pyromania was one of the two first proper rock albums that I ever owned on vinyl. I got this album and Quiet Riot's Metal Health as Christmas presents. Anyhow, I still really like this album all these years later. Comment by rushfan4 6 months ago Porcupine Tree : Lightbulb Sun2000rushfan4 has listened to this a couple of times. Magnificent Eclectic Prog Alternative Rock! Melodic, Modern, Psychedelic, Mellow, Male-Clean-Vocals Wow. Much anticipated and long awaited. This completes the Porcupine Discography as far as full albums. I don't have Nil Recurring yet. I immensely enjoyed this album on first listen. Comment by rushfan4 6 months ago King Crimson: THRaKaTTaK1996, Liverushfan4 has listened to this a couple of times. Where's the music???? I know that this is the kind of stuff prog fans seem to really like about King Crimson, but seriously, where's the music???? Once in a while they throw in some song structures, but mostly this is just a noise salad; random noises tossed together. And I suppose I tend to prefer cheese with my salads, and there is little of that to be found here. |
