Dream Theater : Systematic Chaos2007Time_Signature has listened to this several times. Stellar Heavy Prog Shred Metal! Epic, Aggressive, Male-Clean-Vocals, Male-Melodic-Shouting Dream Theater are sharpening the metallic edge with "Systematic Chaos". I really like the hard edge on this album, which still retains the typical DT dynamics. De 2 Hjul Af Staal: Demobånd2006Time_Signature has listened to this a couple of times. Excellent Non-Prog Rap! Creative, Weird, Humorous, Ironic, Playful, Sarcastic, Satirical, Male-Rap, Anti-Establishment, Explicit, Life, Sex Refreshing release which shows that there is some quality rap music left in the swamp of otherwise ridiculous Danish hip hop. I like the way De 2 Hjul Af Staal make a parody of Danish rap while actually being among the most skilled and interesting rap artists in Denmark. Obituary : Frozen in Time2005Magnificent Heavy Non-Prog Death Metal! Classic, Aggressive, Brutal, Male-Growling, Death, Nihilistic Pure Obituary! Rainbow: Long Live Rock 'n' Roll1978Time_Signature has listened to this a couple of times. Stellar Non-Prog Hard Rock! Metal, Male-Clean-Vocals, Male-Melodic-Shouting, Male-Operatic-Vocals, Fantasy Dio + Blackmore = greatness Rainbow: Down To Earth1979Time_Signature has listened to this several times. Magnificent Non-Prog Hard Rock! Metal, Male-Clean-Vocals, Male-Melodic-Shouting An interesting album which contains elements of both the previous Dio-era and the following more commercial era. The vocals are really great on this one, I think, and of course there's lot of stuff for guitar enthusiasts. Rainbow: Difficult To Cure1981Time_Signature has listened to this several times. Excellent Non-Prog Rock! Hard-Rock, Male-Clean-Vocals, Male-Melodic-Shouting A fine rock album, to be sure, but not as interesting as the Dio-era albums. Still, it contains lots of great stuff for guitar enthusiasts and some great tunes like "I Surrender", "Spotlight Kid", "Freedom Fighter" and "Difficult to Cure". Rainbow: Bent Out Of Shape1983Time_Signature has listened to this several times. Excellent Non-Prog Rock! Medieval, Hard-Rock, Male-Clean-Vocals, Male-Melodic-Shouting Like most other Rainbow albums, this one contains lots of great stuff for guitar freaks drawing on both the blues and medieval music. Still, it is not as grandiose in feel and epic in scope as the Dio-era albums or "Down to Earth" and "Stranger in US All". Yet, it does contain some great tunes which are reminiscent, musically, of some of the great Rainbow classics, such as "Stranded" and "Fire Dance". Some of the more poppy/commercial songs are also quite good, such as "Desperate Heart". Comment by Time_Signature one month ago Rush: R30 - Live in Frankfurt2005, DVDTime_Signature has only watched this once. Bass, Drums, Guitar, Male-Melodic-Shouting Great live DVD with lots of musical and visual delicacies. Geddy's voice sounds strange on some of the old tunes, but that's okay, since the rest is just fine. Oh, and look out for the Pirates of the Temple of Syrinx. Genesis : Genesis1983Time_Signature has listened to this several times. This is, in my book at least, the first really poppy album from Genesis, "Duke" being generally proggish and "Abacab" being in many ways too minimalistically weird to be considered pop proper. "Genesis" contains a lot of tunes that don't appeal much to me, which doesn't mean that they are objectively bad tunes of course. There are, nonetheless, four really great tunes on this one, "Mama" with its dark athmosphere and slow build-up being the most iconic one. While not super comple, "Home by the Sea - Second Home by the Sea" is nonetheless a long tune, which contains lots of interesting musical elements, really weird lyrics and quite catchy vocals. Lastly, there's the forgotten gem "Silver Rainbow" which is almost fairy-tale-like musically. I'd say these four songs are worth buying the whole album for. Concept, Hard-Rock, Female-Clean-Vocals, Female-Melodic-Shouting, Male-Clean-Vocals, Male-Melodic-Shouting, Male-Operatic-Vocals, Male-Theatralic-Vocals, Conspiracy, Politics, Poverty, Social, Violence D.r.a.m.a. ;-) Rage Against The Machine: The Battle Of Los Angeles1999Magnificent Non-Prog Metal! Groovy, Rap, Male-Rap, Anti-Establishment, Politics, Social Perhaps the RATM-style is starting to wear out a bit on this album, which offers no noteworthy changes, but then again, if it ain't broke why change it? Rage Against The Machine: Evil Empire1996Magnificent Non-Prog Metal! Groovy, Rap, Male-Rap, Anti-Establishment, Politics, Social RATM troop on here, not having made many changes in the groovy rap metal style, except, perhaps, this album is a bit more hard-edged than the predecessor. Rage Against The Machine: Rage Against The Machine1992Stellar Non-Prog Metal! Groovy, Modern, Rap, Male-Rap, Anti-Establishment, Politics, Social Possibly one of the most important and original rock albums of the early 90s, "Rage Against the Machine" proves that metal music is not as rigid as some would have it, blending together metal, rap, funk and a tad of jazz, and offering a host of groovy hard rocking politically provocative tunes. Strawberry Blonde : Børn i Bolivia2008, SiTime_Signature has only listened to this once. Magnificent Non-Prog Pop! Emotional, Melodic, Midtempo, Melancholic, Female-Clean-Vocals, Poverty, Social A special limited edition single from the angel-voiced twins of Strawberry Blonde, 'Børn i Bolivia' contains one track bearing the same title. The track is a piece of quality pop, which is most welcome in this day and age, its lyrics dealing with poverty in Bolivia. What's more, if you buy this single, you will support Unicef's efforts in Bolivia and help them build new schools. Iron Maiden : Virtual XI1998Time_Signature is very familiar with this album. Mediocre Non-Prog NWoBHM Epic, Twin-Leads, Male-Clean-Vocals, Male-Melodic-Shouting The weakest Maiden album ever, with only "Futureal" and "The Clansman" being listenworthy. Iron Maiden : Somewhere In Time1986Time_Signature is very familiar with this album. Perfect Prog NWoBHM! Classic, Epic, Twin-Leads, Male-Clean-Vocals, Male-Melodic-Shouting I'm highly biased, because this is the album that got me into music. It's perfect. Volbeat: Guitar Gangsters and Cadillac ...2008Time_Signature has listened to this a couple of times. Excellent Non-Prog Metal! Concept, Melodic, Hardcore, Rock-'n'-Roll, Nu-Metal, Melancholic, Male-Clean-Vocals, Male-Melodic-Shouting Volbeat carryy on their brand of "metal 'n' roll" on "Guitar Gansters and Cadillac Blood", which does not offer any noteworthy changes from the predecessor, but of course, if it ain't broke, why fix it? The album is a concept album of sorts, as seven songs evolve lyrically about the goings on in "10 House City". While most of the songs are mostly hardcore-ish, som of them contain some really earrippong old school thrash metal riffs. Malurt: Superlove Greatest2005, Best Good Poetic Non-Prog Rock! By national standards a legendary punk-cum-pop-cum-rock band, Malurt were the smiths of a number of hits. Some good, some bad, and a couple ghastly. They're all collected here on this compilation which is recommended as an introduction to the band... and a short cut to their hits. Genesis : A Trick of The Tail1976Time_Signature has listened to this several times. among the best Genesis albums, "Trick of the Tail" contains great tracks like "Dance on a Volcano", "Entangled", "Squonk", "Robbery, Assault and Battery" and the legendary "Los Endos". Do yourself a favor and buy this one. |
